Abstract

At present, mass layoff under IMF situation is terrible social issue and another challenge to human well-being in Korea.
The author reviewed the relevant literatures on the short-term perceptual, emotional, and physiological responses to involuntary job loss and job in-security, as well as the longer-term consequences such as financial distress, family disruption, marital conflict, child abuse, social isolation and so on.
Generally, many researcher reported that job loss is seen as a threatening event in a person¢¥s life that causes a great deal of physiologic, emotional and social distress.
Therefore, the author suggest that nursing scholar should turn her or his attention to specific health issue, to the impact of job loss on human well-being, and that research and development of stress management technique and coping strategies for job loser and their families in nursing area is needed in Korea.
For humanitarian reason, I think that job loss is another theme in nursing.
